Fake Acer Computer? I got cheated? Not!!!!

A few months ago, I bought a new Acer Aspire 4920. It was for my Christmas and graduation present. To my dismay, it has possessed some problems to me. Well, being a procrastinator, I did not bother to take it to repair.

Just a few weeks ago, 'something' struck me, pushing me to bring the laptop for repairing in the Acer Service Centre in Times Square. Feeling contented, I felt that I have done a great deal of job, fiu....(breathing a sigh of relief)

When I got back the computer, my blood boils. I was told that my computer is not 'registered' and my Microsoft Vista was not an original copy. Hence, the attendant said that my computer just needed to format but I had to pay for the service if desired. What the #@##? I paid for original copy of everything as far as I am concerned.

The attendant told me that I needed this label. This picture is taken from my sis laptop. Bear in mind, you computer must have the label to be certified as Microsoft Home Premium Vista original copy.

I was very pissed off. I was waiting for my spare time to go to Low Yat to *&%# the shop people where I bought my computer. I thought to myself that I did buy the computer at quite a reasonable rate as the translated Chinese sayings goes, "cheap things are not good".

The outcome...

Tired now. I'll continue later. No mood to talk about it for the time being. Happy to start blogging back as I have been missing in action as I have so many 'wed-wed events' to attend. Pok Kaii lo...Petrol somemore.....hai....

When I saw John Terry, sprained his ankle and missed the penalty, my heart pounded frantically and 'my belief' shattered. That was the chance for Chelsea FC to be the King of Europe.

Disappointment is not a feeling that can be shallowed easy. When reality sets in, the world seemed to 'stop' for me. Congratulations Manchester United. It is a fact now that the King of Europe 2008 is Manchester United. Nothing can be changed.

Tears, agony and shattered faith is engulfing Chelsea's players and fans. Somehow, the new belief and hope to reach the ultimate goal will be rebuilt in the nearest future for the club. That is what I believe they will do and of course I do hope that their hard work and back-breaking effort will pay off in seasons to come.

I think sports and education are identical in a way that they test your patience, hard work and perseverance. There is a saying that goes, "the roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet". We have to understand that failures are just stepping stones to greater success. As long as the belief, faith and perseverance is still intact and 'alive' in our hearts, there is always ways to achieve the seemed impossible dream.

No matter it is in sports, working life, business or studies, a saying to be always remembered is:

"The greatest glory isn't in never falling, but in RISING each time you fall"

Affective Learning

Sometimes we see some people are strong emotionally, calm and steady when you solve problems or are faced with difficult situations. Are they born to be so 'untouchable' that problems are seen to be very mild?

I don't think so.I believe that such people are trained to be affectively strong through their life experience. They are believed to have thick ego boundaries that crisis can hardly bring them down.

It is only through hardship and determination, countless experience and exposures, one can be molded into a higher affective tolerance person. Yes, it is also a form of learning, a form of education that we rarely speak of.

Do you know what IQ is?

IQ = Intelligence Quotient

How about EQ?

EQ = Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ),

It refers to how someone is in control over his or her own emotional condition or emotionally stable when faced with sticky or challenging situation.

Research has shown that students in this country have rather low EQ and self confidence when dealing with real life situation. Well, it includes me too. I know...I know I have to be more 'macho' huh?

Self confidence is truly essential in developing self perception, self believe and self esteem as the saying goes, "I can because I think I can". So, another rather new field 'EQ should be learned and explored by students so that you can realize your self weaknesses and strength sooner in order to pursue self actualization. You can always do some reading on multiple intelligence concepts by Howard Gardner.

I am not the expert for this matter but I have experienced myself about the power of thoughts that has changed my life tremendously. Look to the brighter side always. Remember, get out of your comfort zone, start learning about education; knowledge, skills and affect.

'Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage'.
The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict. -William Ellery Channing

Don't study too much! It's not good for you...

Posted by Fussy Mouseketeer at 10:46 PM

Trust me, I'm not drunk. Haha.

In fact, there is no point in studying so hard because at the end of the day, you had better ask yourself, how much did it all really go into your brain? Yeah. Take all your time to think it over what I'm trying to say here.

So for those of you who are ever so keen to burn the midnight oil and make friends with the macha at the mamak next door (studying late in to the night can somehow trigger your hunger pangs to give you a false sense of cravings for something to munch! I'm serious!), please think again.

If you're still puzzled, allow me to tell you a little personal experience here. During the days when I was still wearing my school uniform, I studied so hard (but apparently paid zero attention when lessons were on in class) it's unbelieveable. I mean, those days of studying 10 subjects all at one go was a killer!

I'm stupid and I admit it. I'm not an all-rounder. But what the heck?! You've already enlisted yourself with the government examination and you had better score hell of an A otherwise there won't be a nice seat for you in the university.

So I studied, and studied and studied everytime I got home from school and only when I was in the university did I realize how wrong my studying method was. In fact it was not only until I scored countless strings of As in the university that it actually struck poor me that I'm not stupid afterall. It's just that during my younger days in school, I've not been listening.

Yeah. It's that simple. Listen to what teachers teach in class and try to absorb them. Paying attention in class is important! But it's okay. Cause I made up for all of the As I missed out in school during my university years when I finally realized that studying too much is not good for me. Instead, I must listen well.

*The abovementioned advice may not work for everyone as it is based purely on personal experience. I shall not be held liable for any Fs scored if the advice, when applied, does not suit you in any way. Thank you.* Haha.

Skills?

Posted by Savvy Mouseketeer at 12:04 AM

What skill do you possess? Skills based education is something that is not something uncommon, rather it has been around for years. Vocational education some may call it, but I think it is a type of education that can bring out the best from someone who is not a fan of books or rather 'general knowledge'.

Actually, a lot the so-called educated people do not really look high up upon people who have to 'hands-on' to earn a living. Technicians are somewhat like engineers, don't they? Somehow, engineers are the ones that are taking the credits for certain successful projects.

Engineer versus technician? Who is better? I do not know. As far as I know, engineers cannot do the things that the technicians are capable of. For instance, fixing, repairing and modifying certain products.

Technicians, on the other hand cannot comprehend certain new details of unfamiliar product. It is the engineers' job to explore the new and innovative products based upon the theories that have been studying through-out the years in universities. Engineers should come out with the master plan of how to make and break the product.

What I am trying to imply is that, you can be someone that is good or competent with your God-gifted abilities to 'create' and 'fix' things. Hence, you do not have to be someone you are not, trying to stuff all the so called 'needed for syllabus' knowledge into your mind.

Realize the type and quality if a person you are. Strive to be someone that you are capable of being among the best. Satisfaction will definitely set in when the job or task you do is really of your strength and interest.

Ask yourself again, are you the totally knowledge-based person only or do you feel that there is certain hidden potential within you in applying certain skills. No matter what, hard work and perseverance is to the utmost importance as the sayings goes;

Talent with energy makes you a king,
Energy without talent makes you a prince,
Talent without energy makes you a pauper.

Just bear in mind, education can come in various forms and it can happen at any given time. Do not give up until you find your true self. There are some articles in this website http://www.mylearningfriend.com/main_student.php?part=resources that can help you in your education journey in scoring the marks that you desire.

Knowledge-based Education

Posted by Savvy Mouseketeer at 8:15 PM

Sunday, May 18, 2008

Knowledge is indeed essential in our daily lives. When we study, we need to know facts, formulas, stories and some general knowledge in order to pass exams with flying colours.

Knowledge is important for working life. You need to remember clients' name, details, application of certain formulas, knowledge on products and machines, etc.

Memorization? Is it important? Well, it depends on certain occasion. Our syllabus or textbooks really have their function in providing knowledge to students. Students nowadays use the memorization skills too widely that occasionally they do not understand what they are reading.

Have you ever wondered why you need to learn Subjects like History and Geography? They do test your memory schemata, don't they? What is the purpose? Knowledge? Maybe.

Certain subjects in school only have the abilities to provide knowledge but they cannot bring the best out of a student. Sometimes, you may see certain students are not so competent or good at subjects requiring memory power, but they are excellent in subjects that involve your left-brain (calculation and logic).

Do you think that by knowing everything in the book can guarantee you a job or a bright future?Think thoroughly again. Well, by knowing and drilling all the knowledge into your brain only makes you a knowledgeable person, not entirely educated. In other words, nerd or geek is something or name that people will address you.

It has got something more than just merely knowledge, isn't it? It is truly not easy to call yourself an educated person, right? Ask yourself, how educated are you anyway?

What does education mean to you?

Posted by Savvy Mouseketeer at 1:03 PM

Students are getting smarter and smarter nowadays, aren't they? They are more computer savvy, attend more tuitions classes than ever and more upgrading classes (pianos, swimming, foreign language classes, etc). Some students even get strings of As exceeding 15. (21 As to be exact in SPM)

What should be the measure in education? Does the results prove everything? Actually education can be divided into 'knowledge based', 'skills based' and 'affective based'.

My teacher used to tell me, which I believe is totally true when someone or a student wants to climb up the stairs of success, be it in education or working life, this quotation is always true about learning or education or even life: (L.U.R.A.)

L: Learn
U: Understand
R: Remember
A: A
pply

Learn - We need to learn, no matter what we do in life everyday, don't we?

Understand - What we learned should be understood, not merely memorization.

Remember - Things that we understand, spontaneously we can comprehend, leading to remembering them in our schemata.

Apply - This is the hardest part to do or perform. We rarely apply what we have learned as we fear of the unwanted consequences, such as humiliation and disappointment. Some people do not really have what it takes to apply what they have learned as they themselves have not learned from the past mistakes or they do not really understand the lesson learned.

Well, this is just the beginning of "What does education mean to you?" Other sharing or discussion, whatever you may call it, will resume in the nearest future. Stay tuned.

Clients don't just come knocking on our doors

Posted by Fussy Mouseketeer at 6:45 PM

Marketing is always the most dificult, not to mention, time-consuming part of any business. Particularly for newbies like us. We won't say we're the most experienced people around when marketing is concerned, but at least we're all working towards the same goal -- to spread the word about Eastern Pride.

You see, for newbies like us who are ready as tigers waiting to pounce on a wandering deer, we have only 1 thing lacking in our resume. Branding. Without branding, you are a nobody. And when you are a nobody, you don't get clients running up to you to vie for your attention. Which rarely happens to most companies anyway because it's a man eat man world out there! *roar*

Which is why, we've been working hard (really hard!) to position ourselves in the marketplace. Since there's practically no way a client's just going to walk in through our front doors and offer themselves to us, we gotta start looking for potential clients in this vast wild wild world out there.

Which is kinda exciting really! Not exactly looking for a needle in a haystack, but still very very challenging. If you take it in a proactive way, it's actually a great chance for us to grow as well. Which is why, sometimes, doing things the hard way may not actually be a bad thing. It's just a matter of perspective.

If you ever wonder, who is the person that treats you the best even though time and time again you hurt them unintentionally? Mother (s) is one of the overwhelming answers. I am not trying to be mushy and emotional. Rather, I want to take a time out to do a shout-out to all mothers in the world, Happy Mother's Day and mothers are truly one of the greatest beings that God has ever created. As age is catching up, I realize that I spend less and less quality time with my Mum. Jobs and studies have got the better of me. This Mother's Day, I want to do something for her but I am truly out of ideas. Well, just go with the flow and I believe I can think of something. Seriously, what is the greatest gift to mum(s) all over the world? I believe it is the quality time that means the most. Well, just get all the 'monkey stress' off the back and also clear the mind, enjoy the moment and the Mother's Day will be as memorable as ever.

Today's world indeed so fast changing. Things truly change so fast that we can hardly remember or notice the changes until a drastic change occur. Well, at least I do keep track of some things that are essential to me in my journal and also I do appreciate every moment that is blessed to me.

This is me, Savvy Mouseketeer that cherishes every bit of life's precious moment. Life is short, learn more, give more and love more. This is what I have learned for the past few years. I grew up clinging on or perhaps believing in proverbs that motivate me and spur me on when I was down or aimless. I enjoy talking about education, how it has changed as I am the 'Eduman' and also about sports, motivation, and many more.

I learn what I see, and I see what I learn. My teacher once told me, life is all about 'seeing' or I should say observing and noticing self and also your surroundings (changes).

Posted by kawaii mouseketeer at 6:05 PM

B.A.N.A.N.A.S的成员,哈哈!

Pore Clean-Up Oil,

Since we started Eastern Pride late last year and coming out with MyLearningFriend.com and MyWordsmith & Designs just recently, everything has literally been like a bullet train ride.

Everything happened extremely quickly, and before we knew it, it's already fast approaching half a year since we started Eastern Pride. The many many ups and downs we've been through this past 6 months has been really testing for the four of us. We have our fair share of disagreements too, haha. Life's not smooth-sailing all the time.

We learnt a lot, and most importantly, we know that no matter how tough the road maybe for us ahead, we just have to keep on going and adapt to new situations. I believe that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Success doesn't come easily, and most certainly not overnight.

As long as we're prepared to work hard and go for it, I know we can make something out of our determination.

How did we start a business in education?

Posted by Fussy Mouseketeer at 11:00 AM

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

With neither a million in our Swiss Bank nor 50 years of business experience, what can the Mouseketeers actually do?

Now it's not that hard actually. Brain and Fussy are up for any business that can utilize their individual skills -- IT and language. And Savvy is one who's actively involved in the education sector. So what can an IT person, a language person, and an education person do?

3 light bulbs were simultaneously lit that very night. Thank you, Thomas Edison.

We agreed on a business in education. Why? Based on our observation, education will never expire and has only proven to evolve to become more advanced in many sense. Education is much like food. You need education, and in this sense, I'm not just talking about textbook education, to survive.

With such great potential in this sector, we honestly felt it would be a good idea to start a website that houses education-related services under one big happy family. Most importantly, an education website will ensure that Brain is still doing IT, Fussy is still doing her language thingee and Savvy is still in education. In short, we are doing what we do best!

This is where our first service comes in. Basically, we offer parents and students our free services in helping them to look for suitable home tutors. At the same time, we are also offering to help tutors in finding home tuition jobs. In this case, a one-time payment is collected as recommendation fees. A fair enough situation.

Now to tell you the truth, if we were just to do just that, Malaysia has already tons of websites running on the same model. We're serious. Now since our service is nothing so original or groundbreaking that will send shockwaves around the world, just what's going to make us different from the rest?

That, we'll tell you next!
